Health and safety training, which is what most Manchester employers come for

Health and safety is the biggest single reason Manchester businesses reach us, so it is worth setting out how the levels actually differ rather than listing them.

Level 1 runs only as a group course, because at three hours the discussion is most of the value and training your whole team together is the point. Level 2 runs both ways.

None of these produce your risk assessments. The legal duty under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 is a suitable and sufficient assessment, written down once you employ five or more people. Training means your people understand what the assessment is talking about. Writing it is a separate skill, covered in workplace risk assessment.

The other courses that run as group training at your premises are manual handling and Level 2 Principles of COSHH. If a trainer is coming to you for a day anyway, it is worth looking at everything your team is due across the year rather than booking one course at a time.

Mental Health First Aid

The two-day Mental Health First Aid course runs as an open course in Manchester, which makes it the practical option for anyone in the region wanting to send one or two people rather than train a cohort. It qualifies them as a Mental Health First Aider, and the certificate is issued by MHFA England and valid three years.

There is no law requiring a mental health first aider and no ratio to hit. What exists is the duty to assess risks to your employees’ health, and stress and mental ill health are risks like any other. Paediatric first aid for Manchester settings

Nurseries, pre-schools and childminders need the full 12-hour paediatric first aid course, taught face to face with the trainer physically present. That is what the Early Years Foundation Stage framework requires, and a wholly online certificate does not meet it.

Before you compare quotes

Three things worth checking on any Manchester provider, including us:

1. Which awarding organisation issues the certificate. A logo on a website is not accreditation. Ask for the body’s name, and see how to check a qualification is accredited.
2. Whether the price includes everything. Certification, materials and, on a group course, the trainer’s travel.
3. How many people are in the room. For first aid specifically, HSE guidance notes that class sizes above 12 raise concerns about assessing everyone properly without a second trainer.
