Description

Quick answer

This is Level 2 Health and Safety delivered at your own premises, priced per course rather than per person. It is the same six-hour qualification as our open course, with the same 30-question assessment and the same three-year certificate. The course takes up to 16 people and a minimum of 12 places is chargeable, so the more of your team you put in the room, the lower the cost per head.

Why a group course usually costs less

Open courses are priced per person. This one is priced per course. The crossover sits at around three or four learners, and after that the gap widens quickly because the price does not change whether you train four people or twelve.

Two costs people leave out of that comparison and should not. Travel time is real money: six people getting to a venue and back is most of a working day each, on top of the course itself. And empty seats cost nothing up to the minimum, so adding the people who are “probably due a refresher anyway” is the cheapest training you will ever buy.

We work the arithmetic through properly in how much does training cost.

How the capacity and charging works

The course runs for up to 16 people, with a minimum of 12 places chargeable. Book 16 and have 12 attend, and the four unused places are refunded. Have eight attend, and you are still charged for 12.

That is worth planning around rather than discovering afterwards. If you have eight people who need the certificate, find four more who are due one.

What the course covers

Identical to the open course: employer and employee duties, hazards and risks and the main causes of harm, welfare provision, safe systems of work, controls for both safety and occupational health risks, and how individual behaviour changes the odds. The full syllabus and the assessment detail are on that page.

The difference on site is what we can use as examples. On a group course the scenarios come from your workplace, your equipment and your actual hazards, which is the single biggest advantage of training your team together.

Scheduling it around the work

Six hours is one day, which for a small team means a day with the doors shut. Things worth telling us up front:

  • Whether a weekend or an evening works better than a weekday
  • Whether you would rather split the group into two sessions on different days
  • Whether you have a room, or need us to bring everything
  • What your people actually do, so the examples are theirs and not generic

Your certificate

Valid for three years, with the awarding organisation named on it. Ask us which body issues the qualification before you book if you need to check it against a client or insurer requirement. How to check a qualification is accredited explains what to look for.

Other courses worth combining

If you are bringing a trainer to site for a day anyway, it is often worth looking at what else your team is due. Manual handling, COSHH and emergency first aid are the usual companions. Tell us the whole picture for the year rather than booking course by course, because there is normally a more sensible way to schedule and price it.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can attend?

Up to 16, with a minimum of 12 places chargeable. Unused places above the minimum are refunded.

What if we only have eight people?

You can still run the course, but you will be charged for 12. At those numbers it is worth comparing against open course places, and we will tell you honestly which is cheaper for your situation.

Do you travel to us?

Yes. Group course pricing covers delivery at your premises across Greater Manchester and the North West. If you are further afield, tell us where and we will be straight with you about whether it changes anything.

Is it the same qualification as the open course?

Yes. Same syllabus, same six hours, same 30-question assessment, same three-year certificate.

Can we split the group across two days?

Usually yes, which often keeps more of your team on the floor. Tell us what you need and we will confirm what works.

Do we need a special room?

No. A room that seats everyone comfortably is enough. We bring the materials.

Can we combine it with another course on the same visit?

Often, depending on the length of each. It is one of the more effective ways to cut the total cost of a year’s training, so tell us everything your team is due rather than booking one course at a time.

Tell us how many people and where you are, and we will tell you whether a group course or open places work out cheaper. Call 0845 838 4643 or use the enquiry form.
